Trounced by Mayor Bing, Barrow files for recount

Detroit --Mayoral candidate Tom Barrow has submitted paperwork asking for a recount in last week's election, election officials said.
Elections Director Daniel Baxter said Barrow has filed the document asking for the recount, but the request isn't official until he pays the fee for the request.
Mayor Dave Bing beat Barrow by nearly 20,000 votes, winning 56-41 percent.

In August, after receiving 11 percent of the vote in the primary, Barrow also sought a recount and paid the $10 per precinct fee to pay to scrutinize 29 areas where he thought the result of memory cars and equipment didn't match the actual ballots at the polls. His request was rejected.
Baxter said asking for a recount isn't uncommon, given former mayoral candidate Freman Hendrix and council hopeful Jai-Lee Dearing did so in 2005. The recount lasted more than a month before it was called off.
"Even though the difference is greater, because of that election it is not unusual," Baxter said.
Barrow's campaign did not immediately respond to a request seeking comment.
